This year (2007) the League held a special summer competition in memory of Gowan Scott, one of the league’s founder members and a former Mayor of Sunderland, who died in 2006.

Congratulations to the team from the Hastings Hill who won the inaugural competition for the Gowan Scott Memorial Trophy, beating Newbottle 34-30 in the final.

The semi finals had seen Newbottle defeat The Stables 39-30, while Hastings Hill beat Ashbrooke - this game initially finished in a 39 all tie, but the Hastings Hill prevailed 48-45 after an extra round of questions.

Gowies wife, Doreen was on hand, along with several members of her family, to present the trophies.
